ScreenWest teams up with crowd-funding site Pozible

Crowd-funding site Pozible and Western Australia’s screen agency ScreenWest have partnered together for a new fund-matching initiative.

In what is believed to be a world first for a government film body teaming with a crowd-funding site, the idea sees ScreenWest offer a three-to-one incentive for projects on Pozible.

The initiative is for creative teams producing narrative-based, digital projects, including interactive content, web series, animation and documentaries.

For every dollar raised through Pozible, ScreenWest will contribute three dollars.

Projects with budgets of $20,000 to $200,000 must raise at least a quarter of the total themselves with ScreenWest offering a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $150,000 per project.

Projects must apply to be included in the initiative, with those selected projects to be launched on Pozible in December.

Projects will have a maximum of 90 days to reach their funding target, but money will be allocated on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis.

Rick Chen, Pozible’s co-founder and director said: “While ScreenWest’s support will provide an invaluable boost to filmmakers, crowdfunding also will help build an audience for these projects.”

Ian Booth, ScreenWest CEO said: “With the fragmentation of audiences and changes in the distribution landscape it is important for ScreenWest to continue to push boundaries and be progressive in our approach to supporting makers of creative content.”

“It’s a new partnership for the WA state government, through ScreenWest and Lotterywest, and we are excited about the opportunity to work with Pozible, an Australian crowdfunding platform with proven success.”

Online series Super Dingo, by Lewis Marrell & Montague and Hunter, by Periscope Pictures are two WA-based productions that have reached their targets on Pozible.
