Senior News Corp journalist Anne Markey to lead Yahoo7 audience push
Yahoo7 has appointed senior News Corp journalist Anne Markey into the newly created role of head of editorial.
The company says the move is part of an investment in growing its audience. According to the latest Nielsen numbers, Yahoo7 is fifth in terms of monthly audience, behind Fairfax’s SMH, News Corp’s news.com.au, Nine Entertainment Co’s ninemsn news sites and the ABC’s news sites. Yahoo7 is also only just ahead of new launch MailOnline.
Markey, who joined News Corp eight years ago, has been deputy editor of News Corp Network – which features 130 staff working on national cross platform content – since January last year. Previously she held a string of digital editorial roles across News Corp’s network news desk and was night editor of news.com.au and deputy editor of free title mX.
In a statement, Yahoo7’s director of product and audience Caroline Casey said: ” Her appointment and our continued investment in editorial will help grow Yahoo7 as the go-to destination for news, lifestyle, entertainment, sport and finance content.”
According to the announcement, Markey “will be responsible for overseeing editorial teams and providing strategic direction for content across Yahoo7 and Yahoo New Zealand properties including news, lifestyle, entertainment, travel, finance and sport. “
