Seven boards the Hayne Plane securing all but two of San Francisco 49ers NFL matches
Seven Network is hoping the hype surrounding former NRL star Jarryd Hayne’s meteoric rise in the NFL will boost its ratings for the sport, after securing rights to air 14 of the San Francisco 49ers regular season games.
It is understood the network had been hoping to broker a deal with the NFL to show all of the 49ers games live, but has instead been able to select all of the team’s Sunday afternoon matches in its deal with the code.
Seven has rights to three live matches on a Sunday, which broadcast early on Monday morning in Australia, and will broadcast them live on 7Mate. It will also show the Thanksgiving game and the Super Bowl.
Subscription channel ESPN, which has the rights to the majority of the NFL matches, will show the 49ers’ other two games, including its first regular season match against the Minnesota Vikings which airs at 12.15pm AEST on September 15.
The NFL has retained the digital rights for the matches, which will set viewers back $250 for full access for the season.
Sports broadcast rights will be a key topic at the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit on September 9. Click the banner for more details.

Ah now to watch the Australian sports editors and content producers furiously pump out as much non fact checked NFL coverage as possible, when the people who are actually interested in the game will just go to international sites like NFL.com and Bleacher Report.

It’s almost like they had it all planned out from the beginning….

It seems everyone loves to jump on the bandwagon.
Good luck to Mr Hayne. It’s not often people back themselves and take big personal risks. So far it looks to be going well for him. Either way his longer term future as a personal speaker must assured.
Great stuff.

it’s better than another cooking or renovation show…finally something on that i WANT to watch!

I don’t want to spoil the Hayne party for the dedicated Hayne viewers however there are seven other player picks in running backs and punt returns who can get game time ahead of Jarrod … and if he gets injured he’s off screen too. Not much for Seven viewers to watch then.
Is this another John Stephens programmer guru winner, like Restaurant Reno?

All this hype around Hayne but what about our world champion women’s cricketers and netballers? The coverage of their wins by the commercial networks was woeful.

god i hate how our own country bags our own players successes.
you read the american comments about him and they all love it, wishing him the best and giving some kudos to our country.
Sit back and bloody enjoy it, stop critiquing everything. @Hanksteakfist, wow your an “interested fan”, sorry we can’t all be as smart as you…

@keyboard warrior
Firstly, “you’re”
Secondly, I’m not an interested fan, I never claimed to be. I’m just someone who is paid to analyse the content consumption habits of sports fans, but hey what do I know?

@Unhappy I think that’s a bit unfair. This Netball WC just passed was well-covered by Fox and Ten, and Ten will broadcast the Women’s Big Bash League this summer while Nine put the final women’s Ashes game on FTA. Obviously it needs to get better but I’m not sure what this has to do with Hayne.

this just saved me $129 USD on an NFL Game Pass sub!

NFL was shown on Australian TV before years ago and the rating figures were not that good. Australians prefer their footballers to man up without hiding behind helmets and padding. We’re saturated enough as is with American programming so I won’t be watching.

Fair bit of risk involved with this programming. The way that game works it is possible that he may get little if any time on the field in over 4 hours of programming

What a cynical bunch we are whom (who?) choose to write reply. I’m SO on board the Hayne Playne (Hayne Trayne???) and someone actually thinks its (it’s?) important to correct a grammatical, when this feller has captured the vibe of every sports-loving Aussie. Go away haters. And GO number 38…
