Seven in consultation with staff amid new redundancy round within its newsroom
The Seven Network has confirmed a new round of redundancies within its newsroom, less than 12 months since it last laid off staff.
Mumbrella understands that 18 months after it dumped Today Tonight in favour of a one hour bulletin on the east coast around 15 of the show’s former staff are to lose their current positions.
A spokesman this afternoon confirmed that it was speaking to staff about the changes, with at least two staffers being made redundant and another 12 staff set to be redeployed, and some staff moving interstate.
“We are redeploying some others into other capital city markets, bolstering those teams,” said the spokesman.
In 2014 Seven axed its Today Tonight bulletin in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane but retained it in Perth and Adelaide.
Last year’s restructure of the Seven newsroom saw it confirm a number of staff redundancies in its Sydney newsroom and the consolidation of its investigation unit.
The Seven spokesman also noted: “We are also in the process of hiring cadets under a new programme.”

Wow after the ratings clanger of the Gallipoli specials not really surprised … Most of those staff had already been shifted sideways from the other flailing current affairs program … I guess the writing was on the wall a year ago

Let’s hope Seven axes Kochie’s Angels. One of the biggest waste of morning viewers time ever.
