Seven Network launches live streaming nearly a week ahead of schedule

7LiveSeven has become the first free to air network to launch live streaming after updating its Plus7 app and website today.

The Network had said it would launch live streaming across PCs and mobile devices next Tuesday to coincide with its coverage of the Melbourne Cup, but appears to have gone early with both the app and the website.

Seven’s chief digital officer Clive Dickens said in an email: “This morning we (quietly) commenced 24/7 live streaming within PLUS7 as a Soft Launch (without promotion) to test the extended hours (in the wild) in readiness for next week. We plan to launch www.7live.com.au on Monday evening but all promotional & marketing is pointing to TUE 3/11 for Cup Day.”

Seven announced the decision to live stream its free-to-air services at its upfronts last week.

Yesterday Nine countered with the news that it would also start live streaming in coming weeks.
