Dr Mumbo

Sharks a plenty at MEC pool night

The industry pool sharks came out in force last night at the MEC pool competition, held last night at the aptly named Shark Hotel in Sydney.

Amid a who’s who of Aussie media sales execs Dr Mumbo understands that certain teams used ring-ins to try and help them succeed, amid fierce competition.

Rumour has it Fairfax Media even roped in a “child prodigy” of pool Paul Bates, who won a number of cue-based competitions back in the day in his native UK.

Sadly for them their star player failed to make it beyond the semi-finals.

The final in the competition was between MCN and Val Morgan, although Dr Mumbo couldn’t help but notice that one of half the Val Morgan team bore a striking resemblance to the regional sales director of Shazam Steve Sos.

When this was noted by the crowd the team suddenly announced that Val Morgan and Shazam now had a new “partnership” the name of which remained relatively unclear through the night but which Dr Mumbo understands was either “Valzam” or “Shal Morgan…”

Dr Mumbo isn’t sure about either name to be honest.

The competition was won by MCN, but not before a rematch after some confusion about whether failing to sink the black was an automatic loss.

For the record MEC trading boss Seb Rennie takes this rule very seriously, as the photographic evidence shows…
