Singing fish billboard. Cute or annoying?
Here’s something a bit different. Put a whole lot of wall-mounted fish together and get them to sing in an outdoor ad on a busy street.
Created by Grey Paris for frozen fish company Findus, the 25 wall-mounted fish are activated by a motion detector and break out into KC and the Sunshine Band’s disco ditty, “Shake Your Booty”.
It’s been placed in a high-traffic area in Paris, so you’d imagine that the singing fish have got their work cut out for them.
I think it’s a cute idea and something a bit different for outdoor – though it surely wouldn’t have been cheap to make and operate.
But it seems not everyone’s sold, with one blogger dubbing it “quite possibly one of the most annoying billboards ever erected“.

isnt this just a PR stunt, not an outdoor ad?

Not that expensive to make for a one-off. Quite clever and gets our attention, though only 8,500 hits on YouTube.
Each fish is $10-35 on Ebay, add a bit of spray paint, some glue, about a day’s coding and one person VOX (half day) and you’re basically done. Oh and speakers too.
OK you’re right!
Not that cost effective for a quiet corner in Paris. Probably better in Martin Place

That is awesome!!!
Agree may not be the best ROI on a quiet street, but I’m guessing neither is the rental on site if it’s that quiet. Good test & learn maybe……..

Cute idea. I don’t get the “Shake Your Booty” link though. I would have gone with that Rodgers and Hammerstein classic from South Pacific “Salmon Chanted Evening”. (groannnn)

but how would it score on Move, JG??

Touche!
Let’s see. Single site … pretty good visibility … elevation and size good … looks like pedestrian traffic only … not sure of the posting duration or whether it is illuminated. Sits and thinks. Resorts to spinning the chocolate wheel … how does 18,247 people sound.
If the French are willing to spend the $$$ I’m sure we could determine it, and then I could pension off the chocolate wheel for non-MOVE markets!

You got me hook, line and sinker. Whale I was obviously floundering and missed the obvious, it’s nice to see some good troutdoor creative, which is the quay to all good campaigns.

While stunty ideas all have their plaice, I’m not sure if you can scale this up. However, I like it – or should I say – I’m shoal’d
