SingTel chief commercial officer Michael Smith lands top marketing role at Tabcorp

michael-smith-234x234 2 copyMichael Smith, the commercial head of the Group Digital Life division of Asian telco SingTel, has landed the role of chief marketing officer at betting firm Tabcorp just two months after returning to Australia, Mumbrella can reveal.

The former Optus chief marketing officer will start in January and oversee Tabcorp’s brand portfolio and customer experience.

Smith has worked for SingTel and its subsidiary Optus for just under 10 years and relocated to Singapore from Sydney 18 months ago when he moved from managing director of Optus consumer operation to the commercial role at Group Digital Life.

But he returned to Australia  last month for personal reasons and continued to perform the same role from Sydney. He will finish at the telco next week, telling Mumbrella the Tabcorp move was a “new opportunity”.

Smith’s appointment follows a restructure at Tabcorp earlier this year which saw the departure of executive general manager of marketing David Ginnane. Former Simplot CMO Tara Lordsmith is also understood to have been consulting to the group.

The CMO role is a new position but the remit is expected to be largely the same as the EGM.
