Ten tops Nine for audience share as Masterchef and Offspring surge on lacklustre night

masterchef logoChannel Ten beat Channel Nine for audience share in spite of a drop off for new gameshow Family Feud, with Masterchef and Offspring leading the charge last night in the absence of any blockbuster programming from its rivals.

Ten’s reality cooking show came in second for the night with an audience of 1.21m after pulling in 971,000 last Wednesday, and Offspring recorded an audience of 981,000 up from 741,000 according to the OzTam Overnight Ratings.

Meanwhile Ten’s new game show Family Feud, which is being shown across Ten, Eleven and One as a simulcast, recorded a drop off on previous nights with the show posting an audience 657,000, down from 719,000 on Tuesday and 690,000 on Monday.

The decline in audience for Family Feud did not impact Ten’s audience share which was 18.2 per cent on its main channel, well up on last week’s performance of 13.9 per cent when it had to face-off against the dominating State of Origin on Nine. Nine managed 16.2 per cent overall.

In the breakfast battles Today’s gamble of sending Karl Stefanovic to Queensland for the Baden-Clay trial appears not to have boosted its audience with the show recording 249,000 viewers, down from 266,000 last week. Sunrise recorded 319,000 viewers yesterday up from 299,000 last week.

In the news hour Nine won with its 6pm bulletin the top show of the night with 1.25m viewers, while Seven News got 1.135m for its first half hour. At 6.30pm Nine held 1.139m whilst Seven’s news and Today Tonight offering had 1.124m viewers.

It was a rare night of triumph for Ten which was also the most-watched channel in both Sydney and Melbourne where it posted 19.7 per cent share and 20.6 per cent share respectively.

Seven won the night nationally overall with an audience share of 20.3 per cent on its main channel.
