SBS saw the audiences for controversial documentary Struggle Street fall away last night as the broadcaster aired episodes two and three back-to-back from 8.30pm.
The combined episodes failed to reach the 935,000 who tuned in for last week’s opener, but still attracted a healthy 828,000 metro viewers to make it the eighth most-watched show of the evening.
SBS had fast-tracked the documentary by airing episodes two and three back-to-back last night to capitalise on interest around the show generated by a rush of press coverage.
Despite losing more than 100,000 viewers, it again beat Seven’s House Rules which attracted 781,000 at 7.30pm and Nine’s Reno Rumble which drew 741,000, also at 7.30pm.
It handed SBS a market share of 11.3 per cent, up from last Wednesday’s 8.9 per cent which was more than double its share of the previous week.
The reality shows had contrasting fortunes with House Rules drawing 150,000 more viewers than last week while Reno Rumble lost 50,000.
Despite the sharp drop for House Rules, Seven won the night with a share of 18.4 per cent, with Nine taking 17 per cent.
Ten’s Masterchef was again the most watched non-news show as it continued to perform well with a metro audience of 1.037m in the 7pm slot, up from last week’s 1.029m. It helped give Ten a market share of 15.1 per cent.
Nine’s Amazing 90s, which followed Reno Rumble, continued to drop away with the nostalgia show drawing 491,000, down from 530,000 last week and 899,000 the week before.
ABC’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering regained lost ground with 570,000 tuning in for the satire show at 8.30pm, up from 443,000. ABC’s audience share was 10.7 per cent.
Criminal Minds on Seven drew 670,000, up from last week’s 588,000.
In News, Nine’s 6pm bulletin won the night with 1.17m, followed by Seven News with 1.15m.

My issue is not with the content of the program which shows clearly the effects of social breakdown through drugs and wonderfully shows the victories of people rising above others and not falling into the same cycle.
But I have an enormous issue that through watching Ep 2&3 and using google search and google maps I was able to correctly locate the address of the Kennedy family. I consider this an absolute disgrace in regards to the creation of this program and is the most basic of post production practices.
Number plates were blurred, but I don’t have access to the RTA database.
Producers of this program should be ashamed with this dismal effort. It is on par with a year 7 student film and before the producers look to blame anyone remember that you hired them.
If you don’t think it’s a big deal, then consider that there could be streams of people outside your house each Friday and Saturday night for the next few months taking selfless, or worse.

Perhaps you may like to check the audience shares again. Apparently the shares posted initially are consolidated shares for last Wednesday.
