Sydney Film Festival to join Vivid Sydney

The Sydney Film Festival has received a two year funding deal from the NSW government, George Souris, minister for tourism, major events and arts announced today.

The festival will also become partners with Vivid Sydney, the Destination NSW cultural event which runs at the same time

Souris said: “This Partnership brings together two of the most creatively inspired events in Sydney and will help attract more commercial interest and investment in Sydney and NSW.”

Sydney Film Festival director Nashen Moodley said: “Increasingly, Sydney Film Festival wants to create places for visitors to connect and celebrate film. Vivid Sydney is another exciting path for them to cross.”

The film festival will be promoted within the 2012 Vivid Sydney program.

Souris said the investment will amplify both events and extend them to new audiences.

Destination NSW first started supporting the festival in 2008 with the inauguration of the Sydney Film Festival Official Competition, or Jury Prize, with a pool of $60,000 to attract international filmmakers.
