TAB and Sky Racing will be making a $50k donation to the National Jockeys Trust.

The announcement:

TAB and Sky Racing are throwing their support behind Jockey Celebration Day this Saturday as part of their partnership with the National Jockeys Trust.

To mark Jockey Celebration Day, TAB and Sky will make a $50,000 donation to the Trust which will help support jockeys and their families if faced with serious injury, illness or death.

National Jockeys Trust representatives will be collecting donations and selling $10 commemorative pins at select TAB venues across Victoria on Saturday.

TAB and Sky will promote Jockey Celebration Day in TAB venues right across NSW and Victoria with promotional posters encouraging punters to donate at www.njt.org.au. TAB and Sky talent will also wear National Jockeys Trust merchandise to show support for the cause.

Race goers on Saturday across the country are encouraged to wear a touch of orange to show support for the Trust and commemorative pins will be available to purchase on track.

Tabcorp Chief Operating Officer Media and Wagering, Craig Nugent said TAB and Sky are proud to show support for racing’s participants.

“We appreciate the risks jockeys undertake every time they are in the saddle and we are pleased our $50,000 donation will assist the Trust with its support of jockeys and their families,” Mr Nugent said.

“We proudly announced a three-year partnership with the Trust earlier this month.”

Chairman of the National Jockeys Trust, Paul Innes AO said this Jockeys Celebration Day has added significance as it marks the first year of TAB and Sky Racing’s partnership with the Trust.

“NJT and jockeys themselves are genuinely comforted by TAB and Sky Racing’s support. Over the last year, NJT provided life-changing support to 51 riders and their families,” Mr Innes said.

“TAB and Sky Racing’s $50,000 contribution to NJT clearly indicates a sincere commitment towards our jockeys who risk their lives and wellbeing each and every day so this industry can continue to operate and grow.”

Tabcorp is the most substantial contributor to racing funding, returning $735 million to the Australian racing industry in 2013/14.
