TAC commemorates lives lost on Vic roads in installation
Transport Accident Commission Victoria(TAC) has launched its Christmas campaign, with an installation commemorating the lives lost on the roads this year at Melbourne’s State Library, in one of the final campaigns for the them by Grey Melbourne.
The installation visually conveys the heartache of facing Christmas following the loss of a loved one on the roads via 209 whitewashed ungiven gifts, symbolising the number of lives lost on Vic roads this year.
Vic assistant treasurer Gordon Rich-Phillips said in a statement: “The sad reality is that many gifts will go ungiven this year. Behind each of these gifts is a heartbreaking story of a life lost and of loved ones for whom Christmas will never be the same.”
Supporting the campaign is the story of Melanie’s ungiven gift. Twenty years on from the death of her sister in a car accident, Melanie reflects on the impact of her sister’s death close to Christmas.

Grey Melbourne worked on the creative concept for the installation which is being activated by Graffiti.
Earlier this month, Grey lost the TAC account, describing the move which came at the end of lengthy pitch process as “a huge surprise”, as they had worked together for the last 24 years on dozens of awarded campaigns.
It is believed Clemenger Melbourne is the favourite to take out the lucrative and prestigious account.
I don’t mean to be “that” guy… but installing something like this at the State Library – a place that is really only accessible via public transport and visited more by tourists than any one else (I’m 31 and visited the library when I was 15)… just won’t hit the market it needs to.
Good execution, but in my opinion (for what its worth), the coal face for the TAC is out at the outer suburban areas and major highways/arterials. Make the impact there instead
