Telechoice targets absent minded phone users
Optus reseller Telechoice has launched a series of ads featuring comedy mishaps destroying phones.
The campaign, airing mainly on Ten, was shot by Melbourne-based Fuzzy TV, and targets consumers who need a replacement phone.
TeleChoice CEO Ehab Abdou said: TeleChoice’s new TVCs aim to depict Australians breaking or losing their mobile phones in everyday situations where they’ve been distracted. Consumers will be able to relate to these situations and keep TeleChoice top of mind next time they need a new phone.
“Filmed in a hidden-camera style, the new-look ads will likely strike a chord with mobile phone users of all ages.”

Snooze. I can’t decide whether to pick on the bad acting, the bad lighting, or the bad strategy.

What expletive does the kid in the last one appear to say?

Could be worse. Simple if clumsy ( no pun) insight, presented in an accidentally comic way.
The clumsy kitsch style could become cult. Or not.
Linking the insight to a reason to choose Telechoice over others, might be good.

The idea has to match the budget.
In this case the cheapness (acting, production, talent) gets in the way of the message.

I saw one of these ads last night. It looked crap, such a bad representative for the brand.

Seems to me all the ads have been produced in Garage Band… in fact, the riff they have used throughout the campaign is part of the (free) program’s sample audio files… not really a great look for commercial work…

Tell them to phone a real agency.

NOTE 1: Never use talent that the client has supplied!
NOTE 2: Never use strategy that the client has supplied!
NOTE 3: Never use production company that the client has recommended!

Ha ha the girl falling into the pond is a rip off from the US mall one.
Very cheap TVC’s but I agree does get the message across.

This is by far one of the worst campaigns i have seen. Poor strategy, poor creative idea, poor execution. The funny thing about clients that think they can produce ads in-house is that they think they are saving money, but no use putting something out there that will damage the brand and ultimately cost them millions!!!
This is SOOO POOR TELECHOICE!!!!

Well done telechoice- you saved 5K on production by using a bunch of weekend warriors to produce it for you.
This is utter shite.

In the 3rd one that girl should see a doctor if that’s coming out of her.

Granted, It’s not particularly aesthetically pleasing nor innovative. However, they’ve identified a niche market and have positioned their brand accordingly. The fact that the ads (and talent) look cheap would only add to the cohesiveness of the campaign because let’s face it, if the target segment had much money they would have insurance or simply replace/upgrade their phone. Not all ads need to look pretty to be effective.

oh so tragic. what is this early 90’s advertising??? Need a new advertising campaign?? dont use Telechoice’s agency.

There is a chance the horrific execution of these spots might drive clients back to stronger production values. Although if you check the latests McDonalds work, the horse has bolted for clients big and small.

So the ads look cheap to appeal to the tight arse market they’re targeting?
You are delusional.

Has anyone been open minded enough to think that maybe, just maybe, they ads look and feel shite (raw footage off the camera) because they were intended that way?
I.e simulating as closely as possible a scenario happening at your office, or something you see happen whilst walking to work, in the ladies toilet etc.
Fancy production isn’t necessary if that was the key objective.

Bad advertising makes baby jesus cry

I think they went mid budget when they should have gone hand held fully amatuer camera phone. The laughing is weird with the traditional cinema shots and fancy intro.

Yeah feel free to throw your opinions around your worthless peaces of shit! My brother is in one of those ads and its so easy for you to sit back and pick at everything someone else does thats wrong. Get a life seriously! You can judge and judge but im sure NOT ONE of you people are perfect at all. Who cares if they arent to your standards, no ad is 100 % perfect! Enough with the amatuer comments and instead of sitting on a website stating at everything someone does that ‘isnt right’, get off your fat arses and do some productive! Your all pathetic
