Network Ten today announced it had commissioned a second series of its spectacular new family entertainment series, The Great Australian Spelling Bee.

Hosted by Grant Denyer and Chrissie Swan, The Great Australian Spelling Bee has been an immediate hit with viewers of all ages since it launched on Monday, August 3.

This unique series has an average capital city and regional audience of 957,000 viewers, with a peak audience of 1.22 million, and it has reached more than 8 million people. It has increased Network Ten’s total people capital city audience in its timeslot by 43% and the under 55s audience by 47%.

The Great Australian Spelling Bee has also been a hit on social media, trending on Twitter nationally every time it has gone to air.

Network Ten Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “We are delighted with how Australians have embraced The Great Australian Spelling Bee and welcomed these amazing kids into their homes and hearts.

“From the start, we realised this was a very special show and that its stars – the talented and inspiring eight to 13 year old spellers – would have viewers laughing, crying, cheering and spelling along with them. The Great Australian Spelling Bee is fresh, different and always compelling. Commissioning a second series was an incredibly easy decision for us to make.”

The Great Australian Spelling Bee is produced for Network Ten by Endemol Shine Australia.

The second series will go to air on TEN in 2016.

Endemol Shine Australia CEO, Mark Fennessy, said: “We’re extremely proud that this simple yet original concept has been so warmly received and supported. We look forward to presenting even more of Australia’s brightest and brilliant young talent in this exciting family entertainment series.”
