Ten drops Hopman Cup tennis coverage
One of the staple programming of Channel Ten’s summer line up the Hopman Cup is to be dropped after the network and tennis organisers failed to agree over scheduling.
In a statement the Ten Network said it had: “decided to pass on broadcasting the 2013-14 Hopman Cup.”
“The network was unable to reach agreement with Hopman Cup Pty Ltd on appropriate scheduling of the event. The network wishes the event well in the future.”
With Ten securing the rights to the Big Bash cricket league it is thought that the two events clashed and that a push by the Ten Network to move the Hopman Cup to one of Ten’s secondary digital channels Eleven and One was not welcomed by the event’s organisers.
I really does feel like TEN are sabotaging themselves – interesting strategy – perhaps making it as cheap as possible for an insider buyout

Makes sense – Hopman Cup was a dress rehearsal for the big TA rights … they didn’t eventuate so no real need for Ten to retain it.

Ten has also missed out on the Melbourne Cup Spring Racing Carnival , V8 Supercars, Australian Open Tennis & Australian Masters Golf TV Rights.
2016 could see Ten secure Golf & Sydney to Hobart Race TV Rights.
