Ten loses 7pm’s battle of the bulge

Nine’s new celebrity-based weight loss show Excess Baggage premiered last night with 880,000 metro viewers, according to preliminary metro ratings from Oztam.

The show beat Ten’s The Biggest Loser at 7pm, which last night took just 698,000.

However, the premiere marks a weaker launch than The Biggest Loser’s 2012 return last week, which took 897,000 metro viewers.

Overall, both shows lost out to Home and Away which drew 1.035m viewers.

The series return of Seven’s cooking show My Kitchen Rules won last night across total viewers with 1.484m, up on last year’s debut which took 1.2m.

The win carried across well for the series premiere of Please Marry My Boy which averaged 1.252m with a 45% share in total viewers.

Also debuting for Seven was late night sports show, Sports Fever with Santo Cilauro, Ed Kavallee and Sam Pang, which rated 236,000 consolidated.
