Ten’s Brisbane news director Cathie Schnitzerling departs

The director of Channel Ten’s news department has resigned and been replaced by the Ten’s national news editor.

Cathie Schnitzerling had been the Brisbane director of news for almost a decade, taking the role in 2004. She will be replaced by Angela Murphy, who has been working as the national news editor since November last year.

Schnitzerling worked at Network Ten for 15 years, starting as a producer on the Melbourne News desk, and has also worked as the news director in Sydney.

Ten’s head of news and current affairs, Anthony Flannery, said in a statement that Schnitzerling was a “formidable journalist” with an “enviable” reputation. At the time of posting, Schnizerling could not be reached for clarification on her reasons for departing.

Murphy joined Ten in 1999 and has worked as executive producer for Ten News Melbourne, and acting Melbourne director of News. She has been TEN National News Editor since November 2012, based in Sydney.

“Angela has done a great job as national news editor and, as she proved in Melbourne for many years, is one of the best in the business.

“We are committed to providing Queensland with the best possible news service, and Angela will ensure we continue to do that. She has a wealth of experience and talent, and will be leading an outstanding Ten Queensland News team.”

A successor for Murphy will be announced in due course, Ten said.
