Ten’s next talent spectacular: Don’t Stop Believing

Tens next talent spectacular: Dont Stop Believing dont stop believing ten nmumbrella 350x178Ten has unveiled what it claims will be the next big format – all singing, all dancing talent contest Don’t Stop Believing.

The show is being produced for Ten by TV production behemoth Shine which has only recently launched in Australia.

The announcement:

Network Ten today announce a major new television event for 2011, with the commission of Don’t Stop Believing a spectacular entertainment show combining singing and dancing in a format never before seen on Australian television.

Don’t Stop Believing will scour Australia for existing and first time musical groups created by friends, colleagues, school mates or families performing some of the greatest songs ever in spectacular never-before heard arrangements.

Performers of all ages are welcome to take part in groups of up to 24 people who will compete in weekly heats that will showcase Australia’s extraordinary depth of music and dance talent. From Lady GaGa to Madonna…from The Beatles to the Black Eyed Peas, High School Musical and Hairspray. Don’t Stop Believing will be inspired by the music and the most memorable performances from stage, screen and pop music history. Each heat will produce a winning group that will progress to the finals and ultimately battle it out to be crowned the series champions.

These performances are what will set Don’t Stop Believing apart from other talent searches and each and every show will pull out all the stops to wow the home audience. Dazzling musical arrangements, a multi platform stage, a state of the art lighting rig, professional vocal coaches and the most innovative, creative minds working in pop, TV, film and musical theatre will all combine to create killer, must-see performances.

The jewel in the Don’t Stop Believing crown will be the resident “Don’t Stop Believing Super Group” made up of 12 of Australia’s hottest young professional singers and dancers who will lead the show each week with performances that will inspire and amaze audiences at home.

This Super Group will be like nothing we have ever seen before on Australian television and a pre show launch will secure them as household names even before the first performance show airs.

David Mott, Chief Programming Officer said: “Don’t Stop Believing is a joyous format and a perfect fit for the big entertainment, feel good direction TEN has been heading for the last few years.”

“We have had incredible success in identifying and airing excellent high impact performance shows and this is bigger and better than any we have ever undertaken.”

“Australian’s have proven time and again that we are an extremely talented country in so many areas, and we expect to discover musical groups and individuals who have come from the most surprising places.”

Carl Fennessy, Shine Australia Joint CEO said: “Don’t Stop Believing will tap in to the heart and pure fun of the explosion of musical performance groups to become the next generation of Australian family entertainment.”

“This is the first Australian series that combines singing and dancing in one spectacular show that will take live performance competition to the next level.”

“Don’t Stop Believing will be an extraordinary new entertainment event and our resident Super Group will blow Australia’s minds and leave audiences singing and dancing with glee”.

Registration for national auditions start now. Groups looking to compete are encouraged to go to: www.ten.com.au/dontstopbelieving for details on their chance to be part of the biggest show to hit our screens in years. There are no age restrictions; only the extraordinarily talented need apply.

Created by Shine TV, Group M Entertainment and Richard Woolfe, Don’t Stop Believing is soon to broadcast in the UK on channel five and will be locally produced by new production house Shine Australia headed up by Carl and Mark Fennessy. This will mark the second collaboration between TEN and Shine Australia, the first Junior MasterChef set to air post Commonwealth Games 2010.

  8. Darn it, I was so excited to hear they’d axed Idol and SYTYCD, now they’ve just combined the two and ruined my favourite song off the Glee album, by naming it ‘Don’t Stop Believing’.

  10. I seriously think that TV is taking the Piss now – Is there an inside joke or something that im missing, Like a couple of years ago someone said “lets make a really crappy show and see if anyone watches” and its turned into a competition between networks to see how much pure shite they can program and still win the ratings each week.

  16. Keep it up fellers. Until such a time as the networks understand that if they keep producing low budget purile shit you the viewer will leave in droves the better.

Don’t limit to the networks, contact the advertisers and let them know if they want to advertise during such shows you will stop using them.

The only way we can save local production in this country is fresh ideas and real budgets. Not the dross and piss poor pay spewed forth at the moment.

  20. Ok, X-Factor originally aired on channel ten a few years back, where it failed in ratings miserably. Idol and SYTYCD were awesome at first, but no wonder the’ve been cancelled because the formats are boring now. Let’s not accuse Ten of copying.

  22. This is such a copy of glee. Even if you look it up on the net. The scotish have done this show first . Exact same name the lot. And there is such thing as Glee.
The scotish ones have real glee groups singing and dancing.
I can’t believe they copied glee though. Nothing can beat the real thing :)
