Ten’s star reporter Hamish MacDonald quits network
The Ten network’s star reporter Hamish MacDonald has this morning announce he is quitting the network.
MacDonald announced his departure this morning via Twitter, tweeting:
“After 3 wonderful years at Ten, I have decided to move on. Thursday 26th September will be my last day on-air.”
The departure is a major loss for the Ten Network which has invested heavily in MacDonald using him as the host of its late news program and also using him for their investigative journalism series The Truth.
In a series of tweets MacDonald he wished everyone at Ten well and would take some time to consider his future.
A spokesman for Ten said: “Hamish leaves Ten with our very best wishes for his future career and our thanks for his contribution to the network over the past three years.”
MacDonald joined the network in 2010, and has previously worked at networks including Channel 4, ITV and Al Jazeera English.
Hamish MacDonald took part in a Mumbrella video hangout earlier this year.
Well Done Hamish, I really enjoyed your reports on The Truth Is. You were wasted on Ten, I hope you find another opportunity that befits a presenter and journo of your caliber.

Oh I’ll miss Hamish. He’s super talented. Look forward to what he does next. His ‘Truth is’ series was ecxcellent.

He will be sorely lost by Ten – maybe he was poached by an overseas network?

Staggering for this to happen the day after the network launches all of its new promos (with him in all of them)
I’ve enjoyed watching Hamish – my bet is he’ll go to 60 Minutes.

I wonder if Hamish already has a deal; if he doesn’t he will certainly get one, in Australia or elsewhere. His departure illustrates one of Ten’s problems: it’s hard for a star to shine at a low-rating network. Ten can’t offer its best and brightest the kind of opportunities, or audience, they deserve. I’d be very surprised if there weren’t offers floating around for Charlie Pickering and some of the other Project people, too.

Hamish was sold a pup by Ten management when he signed up to George Negus show. But his outstanding work from places like the Japan earthquake and arab spring should see him move on to a stellar new role, hopefully in Australia so his work can be appreciated by a larger audience on a more successful station.

Not a fan of his style. Won’t notice him missing from shows i don’t watch. Looks more like an MTV presenter than a serious journo.

I am not surprised but sad to see him leave the channel. Love his programme ‘The Truth is’. With his great talent he would have been approached by others. Hopefully, we’ll still see him in Australia.
All the best Hamish!
