The Block beats X Factor’s first live show while A Place to Call Home returns on Foxtel

Seven’s first live show of the series for The X Factor was outrated by Nine’s the Block last night as audiences dropped away for free-to-air TV.

X FactorThe Block’s 90-minute run from 7pm managed an average metro audience of 1.052m, while the two-and-a-half hour X Factor show which also started at 7pm grabbed 1.011m. Ten’s The Biggest Loser Families from 7.30pm to 8.30pm shed 97,000 viewers week on week with an audience of 446,000, down from 543,000 last week.

On pay-TV the much-vaunted return of Australia drama A Place to Call Home on SoHo, TV Hits and Fox Classics at 8.30pm managed 154,000 national viewers. 

Over on the ABC Dr Who at 7.40pm drew 541,000 viewers for the second episode of the new series while in the 8.30pm slot Vera drew 596,000 viewers.

In news and current affairs, Seven beat Nine solidly in the 6pm news bulletin pulling 1.126m compared with 1.040m while at 8.30pm Nine’s 60 minutes drew 868,000 viewers for the story of how five Brisbane children disarmed their father who was wielding a shotgun to save their mother’s life.

At the same time Ten’s TV premiere of Star Trek into darkness drew 384,000 viewers at 8.30pm while at 9pm the Rugby World Cup match Australia versus Uruguay at 9pm on Gem had 276,000 viewers, with another 183,000 watching on Fox Sports 2.

At 9.30pm a repeat of Pitch Perfect had 500,000 viewers on Seven while on Nine The Boy with the World’s Biggest Hands had 388,000.

In audience share on the main channels Seven won the night with 23.7 per cent, Nine had 21 per cent, the ABC had 11.8 per cent and Ten 10.8 per cent.
