The Glue Society’s horror series launches as app
An Australian sketch horror series from an advertising collective has today launched in the Google Play store as an app.
Watch With Mother, created by The Glue Society with production company Revolver, previously released episodes on iTunes but Peter Baker, a creative at The Glue Society, and one of the writers and directors, said the project was first intended to be viewed on a tablet.
Baker told Encore: “It was always perceived to be screened on a tablet. We imagined this to be watched by yourself, in bed, lights off. When watching a sketch, if you don’t like it you can flick through to the next.”
“Also, the app is like a digital box set with all the episodes but also behind the scenes and soundtrack. It’s a much richer experience.”
On the development of the project, Baker said “Sketch comedy had been done but by using the sketch style, we realised we could do horror in a completely new way.”
“We’ve spent the last few years developing it with different characters. One character is a music teacher who composes music and kidnaps his students to look for the perfect scream. There is another in which roadkill takes revenge on humanity. We also have a section featuring random skewerings. Anecdotally it’s going down really well.”
The project was funded privately and Baker said, despite it being designed for a tablet there is potential for the series to be picked up by a network, with episodes running 17-25 minutes long.
Watch With Mother runs across six episodes On iTunes, available for $10 or $1.99 an episode and $12.99 on Google Play.
