The internet never forgets
Welcome to part two of a series in which Leo Burnett demonstrates how to create memorable pitch documents.
(Update: Leo Burnett has politely requested that we take down the image. Given that they may well own the copyright, that sees like a fair request.)
In this case, we turn to what appears to be a pitch for Bonds by Leos about six years ago which happens to have come Dr Mumbo’s way.
And body language says a lot.
Dr Mumbo is particularly respectful of Todd Sampson’s open stance on the far left, in which he comes across as a man unafraid to stand in front of the camera in just a pair of Bonds briefs.
The image harks back to the period when Nigel Marsh (fourth from left) was still at the helm. Happily, it’s post-Fat, Forty And Fired and he was back in good shape for a fortysomething.
There was also a certain insouciance from Mark Collis, third from left. At the time he would have been national creative director. Now, of course, he’s at the helm of Telstra’s creative advertising output.
And then, over on the right, is Tim Castree, who went on to lead the agency before moving to sister media agency Starcom in the US.
Dr Mumbo would be delighted to identify the rest of the cast via the medium of crowd-sourcing…
And as an additional service, in case you don’t remember part one:
Second from right is Amantha Imber.

I love people who work in media, people whom are meant to be at the forefront of understanding communications, and yet can’t tell the difference between the News, Mumbo and Opinion sections of Mumbrella.
What a delightful, continually surprising life these creatures must lead, ever shocked to find the biggest news stories on the FRONT of the paper while for some reason children’s programming is continually scheduled in the afternoon while MA horror films aren’t on until late!
It’s almost as if context has something to do with our understanding of information.

it’s funny and even better that it is out of context – bonds underwear – get it – but really. i have seen crazy things for pitches but this is up there. i must admit they made it look ok. still out there. i would be worried if they pitched for KY

A nutshell of everything that is wrong with the industry….agency wankers trying to appeal to precious client egos…not even an original song. Trouble is that clients get sucked in by this sort of puffery and forget about the fundamentals.
Also, best leave this sort of mirror-gazing crap to AdNews. That’s why i ignore it nowadays.
