The Loved Ones added to US film curation platform

An Australian horror film will be released in the US through a platform that allows filmgoers to screen a film of their choice in selected local theatres.

The film, The Loved Ones, a teen horror written and directed by Sean Byrnes, is now available on the American-based platform Tugg.

The platform allows individuals and groups to select a title from Tugg’s library plus a screening time and local theatre to screen the film and spread the word through social media.

The film was picked up by Paramount’s low-budget distribution arm, Insurge label which is one of the labels featured on Tugg.

Film industry site Ain’t It Cool News, who called the film ‘a truly demented masterpiece’, is already presenting a string of screenings of The Loved Ones, throughout Alamo Drafthouse and AMC cinemas in the States.

The Loved Ones was Omnilab Media financed, Ambience Entertainment produced film. and distributed by Madman Entertainment locally in 2010.

The film stars Xavier Samuel of Twilight and A Few Best Men, and Robin McLeavy, who starred in Hell on Wheels and the forthcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

In an interview with Encore after the film’s local release Byrne said: “I wasn’t surprised by the underperformance of the Loved Ones” due to big studio movies in the multiplexes, despite him believing the film delivers.
