The name escapes them
LinkedIn is an excellent business tool, if used correctly.
Particularly by recruitment companies.
However, there are small details it’s best to get right if you’re going to use it as a tool to farm potential candidates.
For instance, while it’s flattering for people to get a note saying that their profile has caught your eye, it can look a bit less sincere – and a bit more like a mass mailout – if you get the candidate’s name wrong.
Ha… Oops sorry about that, what’s your name again?

Typical of the talentless pool of people working in “recruitment”. I’d discard this email straightaway based on the fact, the author doesn’t know the difference between ‘your’ and ‘you’re’…. now to jump off my high horse.

I get at least 3 of these a week, 2 of which are most certainly for a position that has nothing to do with my field of expertise.
My personal favourite, and one of the few I replied to was from the new HR manager at a company I had been made redundant from 6 months earlier. I told him that I he should more carefully qualify his list and that his email to me was an oversight, as I am sure the 35 other people who went on the same day may not have been as forgiving considering some of the roles they were looking for were those that had been dumped previously.

It was the email addressed to me? 🙂

How dare that recruiter make a mistake on an email!

Picking on recruiters is like picking on politicians.
An amusing and worthwhile sport.
More effort, please.
ps – When will recruiters work out that you can see if they view your profile?

blc1981 – let’s hope you are never in need of one of those typically talentless recruiters. If only we could all be perfect like you and never make a mistake.
That said, the continual misuse of your and you’re is irritating, but certainly not confined to recruiters.

My latest fave was an overseas email telling me I could earn “up to $18 US a day!”. Mind you some would say I’d be overpaid at that rate.
