The Voice finale falls again for Nine
Reality singing show The Voice has continued its finale ratings slide with last night’s finale drawing 1.552m metro viewers for the winner announcement segment, in which 16-year-old Ellie Drennan was named this year’s champion.
The result sees audiences of the format decline for its third consecutive year after grabbing 1.57m last year, despite Nine last year promising a major refresh on the program.
The Voice grand final had an average viewing audience overall of 1.504m from 7.00pm to 9pm, well below the 1.84m Ten received this year for the finale of Masterchef and 2.039m Seven received for My Kitchen Rules according to Oztam overnight metro ratings.
Comparing year on year, this entire series of The Voice was down 9 per cent with an average audience of 1.47m in 2015 compared to 1.62 million in 2014.
Nine had committed to brining the franchise back in 2016 and is already soliciting new entrants for next year’s season.
Despite a decline in metro audience numbers, the result still saw Nine win the night with a 28.6 per cent share on its main channel, while Seven had a 19.4 per cent share, ABC 13.3 per cent and Ten a 9.2 per cent.
On Seven, Dancing with Stars fell 56,000 viewers to record an audience of 671,000, compared with 727,000 last week.
In the news race, Nine’s one hour bulletin comprehensively beat Seven’s with an audience of 1.372m compared with 1.17m.
However, Sunday Night at 7pm drew 1.033m compared with 60 minutes at 9pm which had 1.023m.
Ten’s best shots were Bondi Rescue’s second episode at 7pm which had 561,000 viewers, and two episodes of Modern Family which had 502,000 and 472,000 viewers respectively.
On the ABC Grand Designs continues to perform well with 872,000 viewers while at 8.30 crime drama Vera drew 690,000.
Ten’s highest rating show of the night was Bondi Rescue which drew 561,000 viewers while repeats of Modern Family drew 502,000 viewers and 471,000 respectively.

What a boring show the voice is. all the songs are boring slow numbers. compared to the x factor where the singers belt it out , the Voice had no voice. how these finalists came to be is anyones guess. plus ricky martin and the madden brothers were unimpressive.

Not impressed with this format. All the good singers are knocked out in the early rounds as they put them up against each other according to coach. The good coaches lose the good acts and the audience is left picking the best of what’s left. Lost me early in the season!

You forgot to mention…
Ten grabbed a MASSIVE 2.1m and 2.2m (consolidated) in 5 city metro figures for MasterChef Wjnner Announced.
Top non-sport show of the year!
Seven & Nine would NOT be happy to see that back…

Hard to believe Joe Moore didn’t win. I’m becoming convinced the finale is rigged in favour of young blondes. We saw that previously in 2014.

The Format is tired, and Darren McMullen and Sonia were just pure awfulness – sonia seems really nice, but she is incredibly bland, and not needed…also the constant pushes to Twitter were really annoying – it has been around for a while now guys..
The chairs and the battles are the best thing about the format, they should chuck the lives, they are just a waste.
My big beef with reality singing shows is that once voting comes in, it always favours the ‘interesting’ ones with the backstory, and pop music is as much about the visual appeal as it is about the singing (OK I will give you Ed Sheeran and Adele, but they are so insanely talented, they are the exceptions).
Who is top of the charts at the moment – T Swift, the genetically blessed Delta, Beyonce, Rihanna and on it goes…?
The Voice judges weeded out 4 very attractive boys and girls early on who could sing a bit, and we were left with lots of ‘interesting’ people, who will never sell out a stadium, or sell a million songs.
Now we can move on to the X Factor – I”m sorry, but is the guy wearing his ‘high-vis’ dirty uniform to the auditions and then being an amazing singer not just a little contrived? Sheesh, that’s like all the boy and girl bands who turn up the auditions and say they ‘met on YouTube’ and then we find out later they have been signed to a manager for 2 years…
