Former B&T editor Tim Addington has today been announced as the new executive director of industry trade body Publishers Australia.

Addington has been communications director at creative agency The Works for the last two years. Prior to that he spent six years with B&T, initially as managing editor, then as editor and associate publisher.

Before coming to Australia he edited media and marketing title Campaign Middle East in Dubai, where he also did a stint working in PR. He began his career in the UK where he worked for national newspapers.

Publishers Australia chairman Geoff Hird said: “We are delighted to have appointed someone with Tim’s publishing experience to the role of executive director. His remit is to deliver increased value to members via events, training and an enhanced Excellence Awards program and to lobby on behalf of the publishing industry and members.”

Addington said: “I’m looking forward to meeting with members and delivering enhanced services to them across the country.

“Connecting advertisers with audiences remains as true for B2B, specialist and custom publishers today as it has always been. While the delivery method is evolving, they are still best placed to provide quality content across print, digital and events to targeted communities than any other media. I want to ensure Publishers Australia is supporting members and advancing their interests across all aspects of business.”

GM Matthew Green is to leave the association following a management restructure last month which saw Focal Attractions appointed as its management partner with a brief to grow the association’s events portfolio and raise its profile nationally.

Hird said: “We thank Matthew for his contribution to Publishers Australia over the last two years. He stabilised revenue at a difficult time for the publishing industry and played a key role in developing the new management structure for the association going forward.”

Green added: “It’s been a pleasure working with the board and our members over the last two years.”

Addington starts with Publishers Australia in just over a fortnight, on July 14.

Declaration of interest: Focal Attractions is the parent company of Mumbrella
