Today beats Sunrise, ABC rates strongly with Gruen and The Chaser

Today: won the morning by 13,000 viewers

Nine’s breakfast show Today, which has been in the US this week, registered a rare win over rival Sunrise on Seven yesterday.

The Karl Stefanovic-fronted program won the morning time slot by 13,000 viewers, bringing in 362,000 with wins over Sunrise in Sydney and Melbourne.

Sunrise rated with 349,000, edging the contest in Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.

But Nine’s reality format Big Brother suffered a fall on last week’s ratings, down from 1.057m to 895,000 – although it was the top show in the 16-39 demographic.

The ABC’s performance on Wednesdays is looking healthier with the return of The Chaser and Gruen Planet. The latter rated with just shy of 1m last night, while The Chaser: Hamster Wheel brought in 843,000 – up from 791,000 last week and its return of 784,000 at the end of September.

Gruen was top of the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.

ABC News also fared well, ranking fourth for the night with 1.035m.

The night was won by Seven News with 1.079m, followed by Nine News with 1.053.

Ranking third was Seven’s Surveillance Oz, the only non-news show to eclipse 1m.
