Today beats Sunrise at breakfast, The Block wins the night

In the battle for the early morning viewer, Nine’s Today was back on top, beating Seven’s Sunrise for the first time in over a fortnight – but by just 11,000 viewers.

Today rated with 338,000 while Sunrise took 327,000. Ten’s new show Breakfast pulled in 47,000 viewers.

The third episode of Bike Wars: Brothers in Arms staged something of a recovery for Ten, up from 905,000 last week to 959,000 last night – but is way off its 1.2m debut.

The show ranked outside of the top ten, but performed well in the key advertising demographics, particularly 25-54. Overall, it was well beaten in the 8.30pm time slot by Packed to the Rafters on Seven, which rated with 1.337m.

Like Bikie Wars, the third episode of Seven’s Once Upon a Time, which aired before Packed to the Rafters at 7.30pm, also lost steam, but kept the right side of the million-mark with 1.036m.

The night was won by Nine’s home renovation show The Block, which comfortably beat other 7pm shows MasterChef with 1.04m in eighth spot, ABC News on 963,000 in ninth spot and Home And Away on 892,000 in 13th spot.

Packed to The Rafters was second overall, while Nine News was close behind on 1.312m, Seven News on 1.289m, A Current Affair on 1.197m and Today Tonight on 1.119m.

It was a quiet night for the commercial multi-channels with only Eleven’s Neighbours with 0.32m and Go!’s Big Bang Theory on 0.221m making the top 50 most-watched shows.

Seven won the night overall, pipping Nine by 23.1% share to 20.3%.
