Toys for the girls
This ad for Howards Storage World, featured in Delicious magazine is dividing the female members of the team at Mumbrella House.
Some find it patronising. Some see only innuendo.
What say you?

“Little phallic symbols for the kitchen”.
What, no nut crackers? No melon ballers? No hard banana covers (cos they do sell those you know)? Good idea but it coud’ve been firmed up more and driven harder.

it’s also a bit sexist.

I’m more concerned that they don’t know the difference between ‘advice’ and ‘advise’. How do people get jobs in advertising, without an education or a basic understanding of English? Yes, I may be a grammar Nazi, but being able to spell words correctly in ads may seem trivial to some, but it speaks volumes about your professionalism, which then colours people’s perceptions of your ability to do your job.

I forgot to add, I guess the ad is patronising if it assumes that only women spend any time in the kitchen.
Also, if the ad is alluding to certain parts of the male anatomy, by displaying the objects that we see… then yes, we can see them… and we get the message.

Nasty typography, nasty copywriting, nasty line breaks, nasty colour scheme, nasty photography. Cheap all round, hope they didn’t spend much on it…

I am a woman and what I found offensive is that the ad is boring, unfunny and ugly. I am all for a good bit of sexism but make it funny!

What’s more worrying, the apparent lack ofPC in this ad or the fact that people actually get offended by something a little tongue in cheek? As an ad, I don’t think it is a very good – the grammar error in particular – but it doesn’t offend me one bit and as a bloke it should, after all, we don’t want to be replaced for ‘some things’ by a kitchen tool – what does that say about my gender? I respect people’s right to be offended, but really…..

Just a bland and boring add.
I love the use of inuendo in advertising but this ad is just crap.
No apologies – I call it as it is.

Made me smile. I’m a kitchen whore though

The innuendo is subtle and reasonably clever but they should have hired me to proofread it first.

These tools could be used either in the bedroom (with some imagination) or used to whip up the world’s greatest hubby a delicous meal after a long day at the office.
The styling is terrible, but the ad is what it is…. kitchen utensils. KISS.
