Triple J’s Tom and Alex win ARIA Award

Triple J breakfast show hosts Tom and Alex won the ARIA Award for best comedy release last night in Tom Ballard’s final fortnight as a host of the show.

The announcement:

Last night triple j Breakfast duo Tom & Alex accepted the ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release, while wearing a giant novelty costume of the winning CD, Tom & Alex: The Bits We’re Least Ashamed Of.

This is the second ARIA triple j has won for Best Comedy Release and the fourth ARIA on the triple j shelf, joining The Chaser’s Blow Parade (2010), Before Too Long: triple j’s Tribute to Paul Kelly (2010) and Straight To You: triple j’s Tribute to Nick Cave (2012).

The CD encapsulates Tom & Alex’s mischief making and the hilarity that ensues every day at triple j Breakfast. From Gwen, the grandmother who stitched up Kanye West’s pants at Splendour In The Grass to Richard Kingsmill singing in an Italian accent, the triple j team teaching Alex Dyson how to drive and talking to Dylan, the only male stripper in Launceston.

In the words of Tom & Alex: ‘Tom & Alex: The Bits We’re Least Ashamed Of features some of our favourite moments from our time on triple j Breakfast and also the bits that we wish didn’t happen but are funny because we f*&ked something up’.

This ARIA win caps off a huge year for Tom & Alex and comes as we prepare to say goodbye to beloved Breakfast presenter Tom Ballard.

For your last chance to catch the duo live, come along to The Metro in Sydney on Fri 13 Dec for a huge last show with lots of familiar faces and friends of the show, including a live Like A Version.

Congrats Tom & Alex, you hilarious rascals!

Stay tuned at 8am tomorrow as we announce who will join Alex Dyson as the new Breakfast host in 2014.
