A good day of batting for Australia wins 837,000 cricket fans for Nine

Cricket fans made the first day of the second test of the Ashes series the most watched non-news program of the night with 837,000 metro viewers watching the third session on Channel Nine, preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam show.

The match in Adelaide started as a good batting day for Australia but ended with honours with even at 5/273 in the clash with England.

Nine also had the strongest programs in prime time viewing with A Current Affair winning the 7pm timeslot with 1.1m viewers as Better Homes and Gardens Summer special averaged 764,000 metro viewers on Seven.

Nine’s new episode of travel program Getaway also won its timeslot at 7.30pm ahead of How I Met Your Mother repeats on Seven and Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals, which averaged 440,000 for Ten.

The final episode of ABC drama Redfern Now had 483,000 on ABC1 and was 18th in all programs. The series of six standalone episodes launched to 600,000 viewers and has averaged around 450,000 since the third episode.

Redfern Now was fourth in its timeslot won by Seven’s feature film Fast Five, followed by Nine’s new episode of Person of Interest, about a CEO who makes his living brokering personal data, and a repeat of Law and Order: SVU on Ten. Fast Five was also fifth in people 25-54.

Seven’s Sunrise won the morning battle with 347,000 viewers while Today had 274,000 on Channel Nine.

And Seven won the night with a 22 per cent share of the audience as Nine had 19.5 per cent, followed by Ten with 12.7 per cent.
