Twitter Australia moves PR account from Thrive PR to Ogilvy

TwitterSocial media platform Twitter has moved its public relations account from independent firm Thrive PR to Ogilvy Australia.

The move comes 12 months after the agency won the high profile PR account in a competitive pitch.

Dickson Seow, Twitter’s Asia Pacific head of communications, told Mumbrella the move was because the company wanted to align its PR agencies across the region.

“As the Twitter business has grown across the APAC region, we need to have a centralised agency partner across multiple markets to manage our PR programs,” said Seow.

“Thanks to Thrive PR for working with us for more than a year and we look forward to working with Ogilvy PR Australia as our regionally aligned PR agency partner,” he said.

In the last year Twitter has established its own Australian office, headed by former Google executive Karen Stocks, and made a number of hires across various areas including music, sports, TV and media as it chases more advertising dollars to monetise the platform, which is thought to have about two million users in Australia.

The primary contacts on the account are now Graham White, Jacquie Potter and Jess Smart, from Ogilvy’s Howorth Communications division.

Thrive boss Leilani Abels claimed the agency had done “amazing PR work” during its brief stint on the account. She said in a statement: “Thrive thanks Twitter for the opportunity to work together in Australia. We are very proud to have been recognised by Twitter for delivering some amazing PR work on the account and look forward to collaborating with them on other opportunities as their business grows in Australia.”
