Twitter confirms self-service ad platform to small to medium businesses

TwitterTwitter has confirmed it is targeting small and medium businesses with the social media platform dropping its $5000 minimum spend on its self-service ad platform in Australia.

The move the first announced last week at Mumbrella’s BEfest conference with Twitter Australia’s Cindy Burke confirming the launch was imminent.

“It is happening soon,” said the senior account executive when asked about it. “We actually hired someone to launch that. I’m sure they will be announcing it with an official launch.”The $5,000 limit has long drawn criticism from SMEs wanting to engage the social platform. “A lot of clients have been asking for it for a while now, obviously it’s auction model and you can spend $5,000 to get one person,” said Burke, last week.

The social media company said a recent internal study of Australian Twitter users showed that 70 per cent of respondents felt better about an SMB after following them and reading their Tweets, with Twitter claiming the research also shows that 62 per cent of respondents had purchased something from an SMB because of Twitter.

It has been rolled out in over 20 countries in the past 12 months, with Twitter VP of global online sales Richard Alfonsi leading the launch locally.
