UAE tries again for TV ratings measurement

One of the more lawless media markets of the world is to see yet another effort to introduce a TV trading currency. The effort to measure television audiences within the United Arab Emirates will be led by the government controlled National Media Council. The country has a population of around 5m.

In 2005 a previous attempt to introduce a TV ratings systems in the wider Gulf region failed. It foundered when key personnel from advertisers behind the project, who were seeking greater transparency from media owners and agencies, moved on.
