UM 11th on BRW list of best places to work, seven media companies in top 50
Media agency UM Australia has achieve 11th place in BRW’s 2013 list of the 50 Best Places to Work ranking well ahead of media companies on the list.
Next on the list was online media monitoring company Meltwater group which came 24th on the list, followed by media agency OMD at 39th place, Octagon Australia at 43rd, Match Media at 45th, Mediacom at 46th and Adconion at 47th.
“I’m enormously proud of my management team for fostering such a positive work culture and keeping our staff so engaged,” said Mat Baxter CEO of UM.
“We recognised that developing our culture and enthusiasm in a period of very strong growth would be a big challenge, as we have seen companies in similar circumstances rush for growth at the expense of their corporate culture and morale. We have managed to buck that trend.”
Best Places to Work is published annually by Great Place to Work and began a publishing partnership with BRW in 2009. In creating the annual rankings, two-thirds of the scoring for each company is based on employee responses to a randomly distributed survey. It is taken anonymously and is a representative sample of each company’s employee base.
Employees are asked for their views on key measures such as trust in the people they work for, pride in what they do and how much they enjoy the people they work with.
Media agency OMD – which won Mumbrella’s Culture of the Year award last month – said it was pleased to be on the list for the fifth year in a row.
“We are delighted to be listed again as one of the 50 best places to work in Australia. Our consistent focus on our people is ingrained in our culture, and continues to position us as one of the most awarded Agencies globally” said Peter Horgan CEO, OMD Australia.

Seven out of the top 50 companies to work for in Australia are media agencies. That’s amazing. Any creative agencies?
