Viocorp founder joins Amazon Web Services as start-up guru
Viocorp founder Ian Gardiner has joined Amazon Web Services in Sydney to head up its start-ups division in the Australia New Zealand region.
Gardiner who is known for starting online video provider Viocorp, and co-founded non-profit networking organisation Innovation Bay, revealed the change in an update to his Linkedin profile.
Gardiner started the role this month and will “build relationships and business with “the start-up ecosystem as part of Amazon Web Services” according to his Linkedin profile.
It says: “Based out of AWS’s Sydney office, the role encompasses all of Australia and New Zealand. Amongst the groups covered – start-ups, incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, venture capitalists, angel investors, government.”
Amazon is ramping up its presence in Australia after hiring former Yahoo!7 CEO Stuart Sayers to head its local operations at the end of last year, and is eager to expand into the start-up market and has been providing hosting and other services for apps and other business functions as part of its move into the space.
Gardiner and Amazon were not contactable for comment at the time of publication.
His LinkedIn profile adds: “Helping investors to create value in their portfolio companies by leveraging Amazon Web Services and working with fast growing start-ups to better develop, market, and monetise their offerings. Supporting Amazon’s start-up customers that seek funding and connecting them with suitable investors.”
