Walkleys announces Guardian US interactive editor for Storyology conference

Dance, GabrielThe Guardian US’s interactive editor Gabriel Dance is to speak at The Walkley Foundation’s upcoming Storyology conference.

The conference, to be held on August 6 to 9, now includes a number of international journalism thinkers such as Dance, editorial director of BuzzFeed of Scott Lamb and Erin Polgreen, founder Symbolia: The Tablet Magazine of Illustrated Journalism.

“If you look at the work Gabriel is doing he is really at the forefront of the revolution in data journalism,” said Jacqueline Park Walkley Magazine editor.

“He is doing some of the most amazing work both in terms of the data, the development but also in the visuals and the graphics.”

Park also told Mumbrella that she wanted innovation and entrepreneurialism to be key elements of the conference.

“We want to encourage more discussion and innovation. In having people like Scott and Erin we’ve tried to bring together different elements of storytelling but to particularly showcase innovation in storytelling,” she said.

“Also we want to show models of entrepreneurial journalism, with websites like Buzzfeed they have a great model to talk about while Erin Polgreen has given a lot of thought to a model that will sustain a new type of journalism.”

The Foundation said it would announce further speakers for the conference in the coming days.
