The announcement:

Wes Dening is thrilled to announce that his production company WDE will launch its first US original series Big Crazy Family Adventure on the Travel Channel on June 21, 2015.

WDE’s mesmerizing and cinematic new series, Big Crazy Family Adventure, premiering Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 p.m. on the Travel Channel in the US, follows wilderness guide, writer and award-winning photographer Bruce Kirkby throughout this epic trip – from his home in Kimberley, British Columbia, to a remote monastery in the Himalaya – with his wife, Christine Pitkanen, and their two young boys: Bodi, 7 and Taj, 3. There’s just one catch: on their 13,000-mile adventure they won’t be taking ANY airplanes. To fully experience the life-changing and serendipitous moments that exploring the world provides, they’ll get to their final destination through surface travel only – canoe, container ship, ferry, high-speed train, river boat, tuk tuk, pony, their own eight feet and more. The series is comprised of nine, hour-long episodes.

WDE Founder and Executive Producer, Wes Dening said: “Big Crazy Family Adventurewas the hardest and most rewarding production WDE has produced to date. It’s an inspiring, aspirational yet extremely relatable series.”

Big Crazy Family Adventure included a 96-day shoot, traveling by surface over 13,000miles from Kimberly BC, to Zanskar Valley in India.  It included filming across the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, through South Korea, China, Tibet, Nepal and India. Shoot locations included Mt Everest Base Camp, The Great Wall of China, The Potala Palace in Lhasa, sailing along The Holy Ganges to Vanarasi, The Taj Mahal in Agra, and culminated in a 100-mile trek across the Indian Himalaya.

Personally it was a very challenging shoot, 96-days of constant movement, 4 talent including 2 kids, up to 15 crew and shot on C-300’s cameras, multiple helicopter sessions and use of drones to capture intimate aerial photography.  There was never a dull moment on this production,” says Dening.

In addition to WDE producing the series, Wes Dening also served as show-runner and Executive Producer.  This isn’t the first production for WDE either, WDE is an independent production company based in Los Angeles managed by Wes Dening.  WDE has four original series broadcasting in 55 countries worldwide.

WDE’s first series was The Stafford Brothers (16×30), Season 1 and Season 2 for Fox8 Australia, followed by The Flying Winemaker for Discovery Asia/Pacific (13×30) and Big Crazy Family Adventure (9x1hrs) a co-production with dick clark productions and WDE’s first US prime time series for the Travel Channel.   With first-class production partners and direct access to networks and distribution channels worldwide, WDE creates, develops, produces and delivers original and unique content.
