What if God was one of us?

Dr Mumbo isn’t a particularly religious chap. But he was a little nonplussed by the latest entry into the ReBrand South Australia competition.

The TVC features a Jesus figure in a charming copper wig enjoying the delights of Adelaide, which seem to consist of going to the zoo and getting seriously boozed up.

Very much on-brand for the son of God.

One of the creators of the TVC explained that they chose Jesus.

“He was available, we are the City of Churches and we were thinking about using Allah, but were concerned about any potential Fatwas. Buddha was also ruled out because we couldn’t find a suitable short, fat, bald dude.”

Entries to the Rebrand SA competition are still open, if you think you could do better.

  2. Do tourism advertisers create anything other than obscure piffle anymore? The drive to be “clever” and “quirky” has overshadowed any actual message for a long time. Here’s a thought: why not show people what they can do at your place when they visit – and if your digs are as boring as batshit, do something about it. This video is just another case of orifice internal speculation, and the worst bit is that they’re quite pleased with themselves.

  8. Lighten up guys. Anything that takes the piss out of organised religion is a winner in my book. As for the actor “not looking like Jesus”, just send me your photo of him and I’ll make the comparison myself

  10. Fortunately, Jesus doesn’t need defending – he didn’t defend himself to those who crucified him, so he definitely doesn’t need me to defend him from bad advertising.

I can’t help but think that the best defence of God is not moral outrage but unconditional love.

  16. I love when people say “that doesn’t look like “.

Jesus was a Jewish carpenter with Arab blood.

European depictions were cast in the light of what Europeans found attractive at the time and did not consider accuracy.

Perhaps this is the most likely face of Jesus: http://www.popularmechanics.co.....cs/1282186
