Wicked Campers falls foul of ad watchdog for two more slogans

wickedTwo more Wicked Campers slogans have come under fire from the ad watchdog for being discriminatory and for using inappropriate language, taking the company’s total rulings to seven for 2015.

complaint against the first slogan, ‘Confucious say man with dick in peanut jar is fucking nuts’, argued the offensive language was a “bad look” for the tourism industry.

“Clearly this is highly offensive language and concepts. It is a very bad look for our tourism industry and would upset people from many nationalities as well as Australian’s seeing it parked in tourism carparks, down main streets and driving behind it. The wording is clearly part of the branding and advertising strategy on their vehicles,” the complaint said.

The Ad Standards Board (ASB) ruled against the slogan for not treating the issue of sex with sensitivity to the relevant audience and for inappropriate language.

The second slogan, ‘Gay guys settle disputes by going outside and exchanging blows’, was argued to be homophobic by a complainant.

It was the board’s view that the slogan was discriminatory, and upheld the complaint.

Wicked did not make a submission to the ASB hearing.

Last month Wicked Campers had five slogans ruled against by the ASB including: “Blow in her face and she’ll follow you anywhere…“; “Women fake orgasms because they think men care!”; “I ate so much pussy in those days my beard looked like a glazed donut”; “Virginity is curable” alongside an image of a female Lego character lying on top of a male Lego character; and a cartoon of Shaggy and Scooby Doo smoking a bong.
