X Factor audience drops as 1.204m tune in for Grand Final winner announcement on Seven

The announcement of the winner of Seven’s X Factor was watched by 1.204m metro viewers last night, 200,000 fewer than last year and half the number who tuned in two years ago.

Cyrus in the X Factor finale drew

Cyrus Villanuera in the X Factor finale drew 1.204m metro viewers.

The two-hour Grand Final itself, which kicked off at 7.30pm, attracted 1.04m, and peaked at a little over 1.2m as teenager Cyrus Villanuera was named the victor.

In 2013, the unveiling of the winner drew 2.43m before tumbling to 1.42m last year.

The audience was the lowest in the six series of the X Factor.

Despite the declining audiences, the final performances and winner announcement were the two most watched shows of Tuesday and helped Seven win the night with a share of 23 per cent, followed by Nine with 20.9 per cent.

ABC edged past Ten with a share of 13.4 per cent helped by Hitting Home, the investigative documentary on domestic violence by award winning journalist Sarah Ferguson. It drew 694,000 metro viewers at 8.30pm.

Ten captured 13.2 per cent of the metro audience as The Biggest Loser Families, in the 7.30m timeslot, shed 231,000 viewers from last week’s improved showing to attract only 583,000.

Over on Nine, 960,000 tuned in for The Block, an improvement on last Tuesday’s 861,000, while the two episodes of The Big Bang Theory drew attracted 702,000 and 507,000.

Nine won the news battle with 964,000 watching the 6.30pm bulletin while Seven News captured 950,000.
