Ziff Davis to launch Australian sales team

The parent company of games and men’s lifestyle brand IGN and Ask Men are to launch an Australian sales team after purchasing the company from News Corporation.

Ziff Davis Media has confirmed it will take control of local business operations in from July. News Australia had previously represented the brands in Australia.

“We’re thrilled to be launching Ziff Davis Australia – allowing us to take our established powerhouse brands to the next level, and introducing the opportunity to bring other globally successful sites to the country.  We have ambitious plans to build our consumer and sales offerings in Australia and to take advantage of the myriad advantages of becoming an owned and operated business.  Our team will be further strengthened with the best local talent available,” said James Whitehead, general manager, Ziff Davis Australia.

The company has also signalled it might launch new brands in Australia in the future, its other brands include: geek.com, pcmag.com and logicbuy.

The move follows the sale of IGN Entertainment by News earlier this year to digital media business, Ziff Davis Media.

IGN and AskMen’s audience focuses on males age 18-34 years old and attracts  around one million Australians a month to their online platforms..

“The Ziff Davis acquisition has been tremendous for AskMen and IGN – there’s continued investment and support to make the brands even more successful.  Building a dedicated Australian business is a testament to the hard work of James and his team.  We’ll be able to better serve our readers and commercial partners, while examining opportunities to launch localised editions of other Ziff Davis brands,” said Ian Chambers, Managing Director and VP, International.
