MELBOURNE: Fred Schepisi – Master of words and pictures
Fred Schepisi is an outstanding director and writer who is fearless in his pursuit of truth, beauty and emotion in cinema. His successful career has spanned Australia, Hollywood and Europe over many decades.
His best-known credits include The Devil’s Playground (1976); The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978), Plenty (1985), Roxanne (1987), Evil Angels (1988), Six Degrees of Separation (1993), IQ (1994), Last Orders (2001) and The Eye of the Storm (2011). Prior to that, he directed the film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Richard Russo Empire Falls (2004) starring Paul Newman, Ed Harris, Joanne Woodward, Robin Wright Penn and Helen Hunt. Fred’s most recent project Words and Pictures premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and stars Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen. He was awarded the Order of Australia for his service to the Australian film industry as a director, producer and screenwriter.
