Southern Cross Austereo officially launches PodcastOne

Southern Cross Austereo officially launched its Australian Podcast Network, PodcastOne Australia this week.

The network, which has been in live beta for the last month, featured a 20 minute walk through at the launch event on Wednesday night with samples of local podcasts – Adam Shand’s Trial of the Vampire, Mark Howard’s Howie Games, and Gary Mehigan’s A Plate to Call Home.

PodcastOne Australia launched on Wednesday night (L-R): SCA CEO Grant Blackley, PodcastOne US CEO, Jim Berk, chief sales officer, Brian Gallagher, chief creative officer, Guy Dobson, and John Kelly, chief operating officer at SCA.

The business is led by Grant Tothill, SCA’s head of podcasting, and Jaime Chaux, content Director – PodcastOne Australia at Southern Cross Austereo.

Commenting on the launch, CEO Grant Blackley, said the company will look it applies its skills in the audio on demand space.

“One thing I know about podcasting is people don’t like it, they love it,” Blackley said.

“We’ve seen an explosion in consumers appetite for video on demand with Netflix and Stan and people hungry for personalised audio they can listen to how and when it suits them.

“The strength of podcasting is its ability to advertise to audiences who have personally selected their content and are therefore highly engaged – these are often hard to reach audiences that can be measured.”

“We scoured the world to find the best single partner we possibly could who would have the tech, the platform, the brand, the analytics and the content. We found them in PodcastOne.”

Jim Berk, PodcastOne US CEO, said the local team had done an “extraordinary job” of creating a network of “high quality, entertaining podcasts.”

“It’s evident that SCA is serious about podcasting and the quality of the content they are producing is well validated by their download numbers.”
