AFL tops NRL in Friday night footy clash

The Seven Network won the Friday night battle of the footy codes as the clash between Sydney and Adelaide drew an audience of 546,000 in Melbourne and Adelaide on the main channel.

Nine’s NRL battle between St George and the Brisbane Broncos, carried in Sydney and Brisbane, managed to draw 424,000, according to preliminary OzTAM figures, as the Dragons fought to find a way into the top eight.

Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens held its customary place as the most-watched general entertainment program of the night at 7pm with 604,000 across every city but Adelaide.

News filled the top four slots, headed by Seven at 6pm with 966,000 and Seven News/Today Tonight at 6:30pm with 901,000, while Nine News trailed in third place with 860,000 and Nine News at 6:30pm with 856,000.

Seven’s early evening game show, The Chase Australia at 5pm had 596,000.

The Ten Network’s strongest showings for the night came from its 5pm news with 460,000 and The Living Room at 7:30pm with 413,000, just ahead of The Project at 7pm with 398,000.

Overall, Seven dominated the night with a share of 23.7%, well ahead of Nine with 17.1%.

Ten and the ABC dead-heated with a share of 9.2% while SBS rounded up the rear with a share of 5.6%.
