Ten’s The Bachelor holds up on second outing but Nine steals the night

Last night saw the second episode of Ten’s reality show The Bachelor emerge as the highest rating non-news program of the evening, continuing its strong performance after Wednesday’s premiere.

It was watched by 824,000 metro viewers at 7:30pm according to OzTam overnight metro ratings. It was the highest-rating program across all three of the key ad demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54) however it was slightly down on Wednesday’s premiere audience of 882,000.

Seven’s Home and Away came in second among non-news programs with 668,000 at 7pm, while The Chase followed with an audience of 626,000 at 5:30pm. ABC’s The Checkout also performed well, grabbing 602,000 viewers at 8pm.

Nine’s 7:30pm live broadcast of the NRL which saw the Sydney Roosters take on the Brisbane Broncos was watched by 369,000 in Sydney and Brisbane. The Footy Show, which aired concurrently in the rest of the country, grabbed 299,000.

In the news race, Seven News at 6pm nudged ahead of Nine News with an audience of 1.050m, 973,000 stayed to catch Today Tonight on Seven at 6:30pm while Nine News pulled 949,000 in the same time slot.

Ten’s The Project was the channel’s most popular program after The Bachelor,with 444,000 viewers at 6:30pm and 632,000 at 7pm. It was also the second highest-rating program amongst 16-39 and 18-49 year old viewers.

In morning television, Seven’s Sunrise beat out Nine’s Today, the programs grabbing 349,000 and 320,000 respectively at 6am.

Nine finished the night with the largest audience share at 18.7%. It was followed by Ten with 18.3%, Seven with 16.1%, ABC at 10.7% and SBS at 4.7%.
