Bauer Media axes entire Good Health editorial team

Bauer Media has axed the entire editorial team of its monthly title Good Health, making eight staff redundant.

The magazine will now be produced by Bauer’s NZ based team who also publish the publishing company’s Kiwi title, Good Health Choices.

Good Health will now be produced in NZ

Advertising sales, marketing, subscriptions, circulation, retail, production and finance operations for the magazine will continue to be run from Australia.

The move is one of the first by new Bauer CEO Paul Dykzeul since he took the helm in Australia after running the company’s NZ operation. He replaced Nick Chan, who abruptly departed the company after 12 months due to “differences in strategic priorities”.

A spokesperson for Bauer Media told Mumbrella the move was the result of “extensive research in both markets” which suggested the content had many similarities.

“Following extensive research in both markets into the health and wellbeing category, the five most important aspects of health and wellbeing for readers have been found to be the the same in both countries.

“Therefore content for Good Health will be produced in New Zealand alongside sister New Zealand title Good Health Choices as there are significant editorial synergies.”

However, Bauer said Good Health would remain the lead title.

“We have experienced great results with this format of publishing – the Australian Take 5 editorial team currently produces the content for NZ’s Lucky Break magazine, with other publishing functions, such as advertising sales, performed in NZ.”

“Unfortunately the Australian Good Health editorial team has been impacted. We want to thank them all for their hard work and dedication and we are trying to redeploy them within the business.”

The title was edited by Catherine Marshall. Bauer claims to sell 45,000 copies of the title, although that number is unaudited.

The news comes weeks after Bauer Media’s general manager for fashion, health & beauty, Fiona Legdin, left the company.

Legdin’s departure followed BauerWorks’ Cat Bowe, who left the company after five months. Also in the last month, Bauer Media lost a defamation lawsuit to Rebel Wilson, and Kim Doherty left her role as editor-in-chief of the Australian Women’s Weekly, replaced by OK!’s Nicole Byers.

Lucy Walker was promoted to editor of OK! Magazine.
