Clemenger Melbourne hunts for exceptions to the rule

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has launched its 2017 ‘Exception to the Rule‘, a talent recruitment program to find talent from outside traditional tertiary pathways.

The recruitment process involves answering two questions, one which is a video response detailing what makes you different and interesting, and another written responses which asks applicants to show a recent piece of work from a brand which they found impressive and what could have been improved.

Those who make it to the next round, applicants will be assessed in person while they complete an agency style group task.

‘Exception to the Rule’ offers 10 roles with full time positions starting from January to December next year.

Last year, the program saw Clemenger BBDO Melbourne recruit a plumber, stage hand, dancer and personal trainer.

Nick Garrett, CEO at Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, said in a statement: “Like a few industry folk, I had a gut feel for a few years that some of the best advertising minds weren’t coming into the industry because of the barriers to entry presented by traditional pathways.

“The Exceptions we recruited last year have made amazing strides since joining the business and have added immensely to the diversity of thinking and work throughout the building, and continue to add to the culture of the agency.”
