“On 13 August 2017, The Daily Mail Australia published an article entitled, ‘Revealed: How a double agent ‘lured’ ‘gullible’ Michael Ibrahim into getting involved in a get-rich-quick tobacco smuggling scam,” the apology began.
“The article made a number of references to Mr John Ibrahim and alleged that Mr John Ibrahim was involved in the alleged international drug syndicate.”
It went on to say the Daily Mail Australia was not aware of any evidence which implicated Ibrahim in the allegations made against those charged.
“The Daily Mail unreservedly withdraws all allegations, either express or implied, in the article, which convey any suggestion that Mr John Ibrahim was involved in the alleged international drug syndicate.”
It concluded: “The Daily Mail sincerely apologises to Mr John Ibrahim for any hurt or embarrassment caused by the article.”
